We may have hundreds of followers online, but how many of them have we actually had a conversation with? Catalyst Collective was created because we realized that many students our age struggle to meet new people in person, even students from our own schools.

Our own group is proof of this. We started out as Instagram acquaintances who came together around a shared idea. But by showing up, working toward something together, and spending time getting to know each other, real friendships formed along the way.

That’s why we create opportunities for students to get in the room, meet face-to-face, have real conversations, and get better at connecting by pushing ourselves beyond what’s comfortable.

Location: Biola University

College Connections gives Catalyst students access to college students studying a variety of fields in a casual, relaxed setting. Catalyst Collective will help facilitate the experience with conversation tips and questions to get things started, while college students will come ready to share about their majors, college life, what they really think about their classes, and the paths they’ve chosen.

What to Expect:

  • Honest perspectives on classes, college life, and career paths

  • Tips for asking good questions and making connections

  • Pizza, pool, ping pong, and a relaxed atmosphere to hang out and talk

How to Make the Most of These Events

Engage Actively

Once you’re at the event, make the most of your time by actively engaging with others:

  • Network: Don’t be shy! Introduce yourself to new people.

  • Participate: Ask questions and get involved in discussions.

  • Share: Share about yourself, your experiences and insights.

Follow Up After the Event

After the event, it’s essential to maintain the connections you’ve made:

  • Reach Out: Send a quick message to people you met, thanking them for their time and expressing interest in staying connected.

  • Share Resources: If you learned something valuable, share it with your new contacts. This fosters goodwill and keeps the conversation going.

  • Reflect on Your Experience: Take time to think about what you learned and how you can apply it in your life.

You are the Collective

Catalyst Collective is meant to grow with the people who are part of it. What would be helpful to you? Who would you like to meet? What experience, conversation, or opportunity do you wish existed?

Our events are just the beginning. We want students to bring their own ideas, interests, and connections to help create what comes next. Whether it’s a mixer, study group, college meet-up, community project, or something we haven’t thought of yet, the Collective is what we make it.  Let’s see what we can create together.
